Grand Rapids, Michigan office furniture maker Steelcase is posting a loss for its fiscal third quarter, and has announced 300 white-collar layoffs as part of an ongoing restructuring.

The company is closing an Atlanta plant, resulting in 300 job losses. Michigan workers may face 300 cuts; and the company plans to fire 300 white-collar workers nationwide.

Steelcase said the combination of lower orders in both its domestic and international markets and the stronger US dollar have pushed down expectations.

The company will have eight plans in North America after Atlanta shuts down.
