WSP USA’s Maritime Division has an exciting opportunity for a Civil / Site Design Engineer
in our Tampa, FL
location. The US Maritime Division is part of the Transportation and Infrastructure Group and has approximately 140 team members who collaborate on major projects worldwide. This dynamic team provides a full range of services to port and marine terminal operators, including, but not limited to, strategic planning, master planning, design, construction management, financial analysis and planning, environmental studies, permitting, operations planning, coastal engineering and facility maintenance/ management.
The Maritime Division offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, each being uniquely different. While the primary scope of work of this position will be concentrated in the Southeast region, which includes the Gulf Coast states and Atlantic Coast states south of Washington D.C., there may be opportunities to work on Maritime projects throughout the world. The successful candidate will, under close supervision, perform assignments which are clearly defined and require the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. The types of projects which the Maritime Division are involved with vary greatly. The responsibilities of this role will include the following:
Assist more experienced engineers in broader engineering activities;
Perform routine engineering functions;
Prepare basic drawings and performs calculations in support of broader engineer activities;
Gather and record information to be used for writing specifications;
Review vendor drawings to assure compliance with specifications;
Prepare technical studies and reports;
Perform cost estimates for marine projects;
Assist with inspection and design which requires work both in field and office settings;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college/university with a focus in civil site or land development (rather than structural, water resources, environmental, etc.)
0 - 1 years of applicable civil engineering experience; relevant internships will be considered;
A working knowledge of engineering design and practices in the areas of concept drawings, grading design, design of utility systems including Stormwater and sanitary sewer, soil erosion, earthwork analysis, sediment control design, stability calculations, municipal zoning and land development ordinances, and site investigations;
Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, or MicroStation, or similar state-of-the-art CAD programs;
Excellent written and oral communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel;
Self-motivated, flexible and capable if working in a fast-paced work environment;
Strong time management and organizational skills;
A Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
