Responsible for handling the civil engineering aspects for most special projects dealing with natural gas feeder and distribution mains (such as bridge crossings, railroad crossings, shallow installations, and excessive cover) and for directly coordinating or overseeing the coordination of road improvement plans, sewer plans, and development plans from state highway departments, municipalities, engineering firms, and developers so that conflicts with our existing gas facilities can be determined and minimized.
Oversee and maintain construction estimating processes, including analysis and updates to CU’s
Handle calls and correspondence from Construction and Leak & Maintenance foremen, general foremen, civic inspectors, External Affairs, and other departments regarding the status of jobs and projects
Handle calls and correspondence from outside the Company (municipalities, engineering firms, developers) to process the needed information to coordinate the Company’s facilities with proposed improvements and development
Process the all proposed road improvements, including identifying conflicts, designing relocations, obtaining variances, initiating work orders, and seeking reimbursement
Schedule and prioritize projects that are going to construction or have a higher priority due to the Company’s requirements
Attend site meetings, when necessary, to resolve specific issues or conflicts with the Company’s facilities and proposed improvements
Assign the various plans for review to the GIS Analyst and follow their progress through the construction drawing process, providing information or direction when needed, as required to properly convey and depict design decisions
Record and track each set of improvement plans from preliminary to final stage through construction
Assist in the daily coordination, assignment of work and oversight of GIS Analyst and Construction Engineers
Work on special projects: bridge crossings; railroad crossings; design non-normal services, such as for loft buildings; work with those blasting near the Company’s mains; and calculate stress on pipelines with non-typical amounts of cover
Responsible for specifying and having placed on order most non-stock material required for all types of main and service work
Review the design and cost estimates for all types of main and service work; review delivery pressures; and justify proposed main work
Determine main financing costs for new business main extensions and report results to Marketing Department
Determine any non-normal costs that may occur with a main extension
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Five years of related engineering experience natural gas pipeline preferred
Two to Three years of practical design experience and interaction with road/highway agencies
AutoCAD experience preferred
Education and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
Civil, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred
Certificates, licenses, registrations:
Valid driver’s license
Normal Work Environment – Work is normally performed in a shared office environment
Typically, 7:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday
Overtime and/or travel may be required
