CIVIL / STRUCTURAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Zachry Group is currently accepting applications for Civil / Structural Design Engineer

for our corporate headquarters location in San Antonio, TX.

The C/S Engineer

will be responsible for completing project specific objectives, on time, under direction of Senior C/S Design Engineer. Perform engineering duties in planning, estimating, designing, and overseeing construction and maintenance of industrial structures and systems, civil work and systems, and ensuring that they are scheduled and built in accordance with the plans and specifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Perform Civil Engineering duties in the Management of the Project’s workforce, finances, and materials used on the specific project.

Will work on planning, designing, and overseeing construction and maintenance of industrial structures and systems, and civil work and systems.

Responsible for design and safety of temporary structures used during construction. 

Analyze survey reports, maps, and other data to plan projects. 

Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors in planning stages and risk analysis. 

Compile and submit permit applications to local, state, and federal agencies verifying that projects comply with various regulations. 

Perform or oversee soil testing to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations. 

Test building materials, such as concrete, asphalt, or steel, for use in specific projects. 

Provide cost estimates for materials, equipment, or labor to determine a project’s economic feasibility.

Perform or oversee, surveying operations to establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction.

Inspect equipment, instruments, and systems to make sure they meet safety standards and applicable regulations.

Present technical information to peers or other personnel for review, to implement operating procedures, and resolve system malfunctions. 

Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. 

Provide specific to discipline technical expertise to the degree of preparing and providing training for other personnel; both within the company and for the customer.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or similar discipline from an accredited engineering program

Registered Professional Engineer (PE)

5-10 years related work experience in industrial applications

Complex Problem Solving skills (STEM)

Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills

Values ethics, professionalism, and maintains confidentiality

Strong communication and presentation skills

Comfortable working in a collaborative, transparent, teamwork-based culture

Proficient with Engineering and Computer Software (, MS Office, AutoCAD, 2D &/or 3D CAD, BlueBeam, Revit, NavisWorks, GeoPak, Staad, etc…)

Ability to independently organize and prioritize work assignments and coordinate a variety of tasks, with good attention to detail and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines

Understanding, acceptance and adherence of company policies and procedures, including all business objectives and goals

Willingness to travel and work in other offices and field environments

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering discipline or related field

Proficiency with Civil/Structural Engineering and Project Management Computer Software 

Licensed Professional Engineer

Industrial Experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employee will work in multiple environments including an office, warehouse and in a trailer or building on construction sites. On construction sites, noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
