Design West Engineering Inc. is a Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical consulting engineering firm that is opening a new office in Edmonds, WA, and is currently seeking an experienced Licensed Mechanical Engineer to join our team of professionals in the greater Seattle Area. As a Licensed Mechanical Engineer at Design West Engineering, you will have the opportunity to apply your management and design expertise on exciting and challenging projects in our new Edmonds office. As the licensed engineer of record, you will become a leader of our new venture, with the ability to grow into a principal role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Licensed Mechanical Engineer of Record


  • Maintain client relationships and daily contact regarding projects design and status.


  • Manage projects from kick-off meeting to final construction administration.


  • Manage and maintain design process, overall project schedule, AutoCAD/REVIT production scheduling, and project design cost budget.


  • Supervise and coordinate mechanical designers, CAD staff, clerical staff, and selected vendors, sub-consultants, and technical resources.


  • Coordinate with Project Managers to determine workload and project resources.


  • Coordinate and manage technical criteria, client interactions, document production and staffing issues.


  • Interact with client’s project manager, design team members, construction team members, and other sub-consultants.


  • Consult with the client and its agents to establish project requirements


  • Prepare Mechanical specifications.


  • Provide complete working drawings for the mechanical and plumbing systems for various types of projects.


  • Working knowledge of State and local building codes, including Seattle Energy Code, and similar mechanical codes, standards, and regulations.


  • Prepare documents for submission to local code authorities, research and apply all necessary local codes, respond to code authority questions and comments, interact with contractors and inspectors as necessary.


  • Understand and supervise the preparation of energy compliance and LEED certification documentation as necessary


  • Proficient in AutoCAD/REVIT/MEP to provide drawing review, printing, and plotting.


  • Understand mechanical construction methods and materials and be capable of interacting with mechanical and plumbing contractors in regard to constructability, equipment placement, general construction techniques and methods, etc. as required by the project.




Desired Skills and Experience



  • Licensed Mechanical PE in the State of WA - REQUIRED


  • Local to greater Seattle area


  • Experienced in HVAC design, 5 years required, 10 years preferred


  • CAD/Revit experience


  • LEED AP preferred


  • Written and verbal communication skills to function with all levels of management and staff


  • Ability to apply principles of engineering to solve complex problems, deal with a variety of dynamic variables, and interpret instructions presented in various forms


  • Proficient in computer skills that includes software knowledge in Windows, Microsoft Office Suite


  • Client and engineering team management
