WSP is currently initiating a search for an Intern for our Newark, NJ office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Read, understand and analyze track and signal drawings, train schedules and technical specifications

Prepare simulation model input based on the information collected from the drawings and other relevant source data

Participate in the development of simulation models for rail and transit projects

Collect and analyze data in the model outputs

Work on tasks requiring statistical analysis of wide range of safety performance activities applicable to transit agencies and railroads

Become familiar with the structure of revenue/fare collection systems and contribute to the development of fare collection model(s)

Support the fare collection technical team in analyzing existing fare structures and contribute to recommendations for changes to fare structures to accommodate recommended fare box recovery ratios and provide flexible fares for multiple transit modes

Contribute to reports preparation pertaining to all the above

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Student in an accredited degree program at a recognized U.S. university leading to a degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation, Mathematics, Planning or related field

Experience researching, analyzing and summarizing technical information

Clear written and verbal communications skills, and understanding of the English language

Ability to work in a self-directed environment with guidance and mentoring from the team

Proficiency using computer software such as MS Office

Preferred Qualifications

Any experience working in the Rail or Transit industry and/or government agency

Understanding of engineering drawings at various stages of design

Familiarity with the fundamental principles of dynamic simulations and computer modeling

Experience using AutoCAD, GIS and Adobe Creative Suite

Prior internship experience
