The purpose of this position is to review construction plans under the applicable building, life/fire safety and energy codes and provide technical advice to building inspectors and individuals who submit plans for review. Advises and assists the Chief Building Inspector in developing policies and procedures concerning interpretation and application of building codes.
Duties Of Position
Reviews and evaluates proposed construction documents, architectural plans and specifications of structures that fall under the jurisdiction of the Kentucky Residential Code and light commercial structures that are the responsibility of local governments under KRS 198B in order to ensure compliance. Explains and interprets applicable codes to interested parties. Provides training seminars and in-house training sessions. Meets with inspector and/or contractor in the field to resolve problems, clarify code interpretations and any other issues pertaining to an active building project. Performs all phases of building inspections when needed. Reviews commercial and residential building permits; copies, makes notations, and disburses permit applications. May perform inspections of Section 8 rental units following established criteria.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related), with a minimum of six years of practical experience as a building official and/or inspector (or related position) required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. Must possess a current Kentucky certification as a Building Inspector Level II and possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Starting Salary
Pay Grade 121; Starting Salary $43,978/yr. ($21.14/hr), plus a full benefit package with paid vacation and sick leave.
Work Hours
7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional overtime (comp-time).
