The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management (CAECM) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for the position of Department Head. The new Department Head will be expected to provide vision and leadership that will advance the department’s growth, to expand the department’s prominence in research and graduate education, and sustain a longstanding commitment to excellence in undergraduate education. The selected candidate must also possess an established ability to foster relationships with industry and an interest in facilitating international partnerships.
The CAECM Department is comprised of a unique combination of degree programs encompassing the disciplines necessary to design, construct, and manage the built environment and infrastructure. The CAECM Department consists of 21 full-time faculty and 5 full-time staff, and houses three accredited undergraduate programs with mandatory co-op: Architectural Engineering (169 students), Civil Engineering (354 students), and Construction Management (241 students). The CAECM Department also houses the Civil Engineering M.Eng. M.S., and Ph.D. graduate programs with 60 graduate students. The Department has strong educational and research programs in building systems, construction, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources engineering. Physical laboratory facilities within the department include the soil mechanics lab, construction materials lab, Large Scale Test Facility, transportation simulation labs, the BEAST lab (Building Energy Advanced Solutions & Technologies), and the Smart and Sustainable Building Environment Lab. Future growth is expected in the development of M.Eng program offerings as well as the development of the Architectural Engineering graduate program. The principal responsibilities of this position are to provide leadership and management of the department including:
*Long-term and visionary planning to achieve departmental, college, and university strategic goals *Fiscal management in collaboration with the department’s business manager *Facilitate development, mentoring, and personnel management to faculty and staff *Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements *Foster and maintain partnerships with industry *Manage departmental communications *Advance the research and teaching missions of the department
Additionally, the Department Head is expected to teach one course per year.
Minimum Qualifications: The applicant must have earned a doctorate degree in civil engineering, architectural engineering, construction management, or a closely-related discipline and have demonstrated academic leadership and management skills. Applicants must have a proven record of scholarly publications, funded research, effective teaching, and professional and university service sufficient to qualify for appointment to a senior tenured position. A demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity among faculty, staff, and students is required.
