General SummaryThis position is responsible for providing efficient and accurate earthwork quantity take-offs and ongoing technical support to the estimating department to ensure accurate and timely estimates. A secondary role is to support our survey department and GPS machine control modeling efforts when projects transition from estimating to operations.Essential Job Accountabilities1. Review plans and specifications with the estimating team to determine specific take-off needs to ensure requirements are met.2. Develop job essential data including quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man hour, and equipment to ensure accurate estimates and bids.3. Research historical data and productivity analysis reports in order to compile summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.4. Phase take-offs as per construction phasing in order to develop a mass haul diagram that identifies balance intervals and optimizes locations for borrow and spoil.5. Model site boundaries, existing ground, proposed design and all intermediate surfaces.6. Account for retaining walls, laybacks, overbuilds, structural sections, stripping, subsidence, removals water table, and rock strata.7. Validate quantity reports with graphical sections and profiles, cut-fill plan views, geo-referenced Google Earth reports, and use of the drive-thru tool.8. Review take-off data/summaries, mass haul diagrams and other data with estimating team and assist in Bid Closing to ensure quantities accurately reflect project requirements. 9. Maintain files of working documents for back-up to estimating figures to support accuracy of bid submission.','!*!Education • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience. Work Experience• 0 - 2 years construction estimating support or similar experience.• Construction experience preferredKnowledge, skills, and abilities• Proficient in all MS Office products (Excel, Access, etc)• Previous experience with or ability to learn CAD and Modeling Software such as Microstation, Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam, Sketchup, Civil 3D and Agtek.• Ability to calculate quantities accurately and in a timely manner• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings• Ability to understand, analyze and summarize supplier and subcontract quotations.• Ability to work accurately while under time pressurePhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
