CIVIL & ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE
Michael Baker International’s civil engineering professionals manage and staff active projects in over 40 countries on five continents. Services are provided for a broad range of projects and capabilities, including highways, airports, bridges, rail and transit systems, government and commercial facilities, water and wastewater infrastructure, oil and gas infrastructure, and commercial/urban development. Our fields of expertise span all areas of civil engineering and include an extensive variety of specialty disciplines, such as environmental compliance and restoration, coastal engineering, urban development, and mining.
As part of our Civil Engineering Design Team, you will primarily provide planning, design, and construction support for a variety of projects related to civil and roadway engineering. You will provide input to the preparation of construction drawings and specifications. You will build and maintain important relationships with customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
•The majority of your day would be spent leading and/or contributing to the design effort on one or more projects.
•Prepare moderately complex studies, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports, and supporting documentation.
•Occasionally visit project sites. Document and report findings to more experienced Engineers and/or Project Managers.
•Assist in the development of cost estimates.
•Assist with defining scope of work and man-hour requirements.
•Assist in proposal production and in implementing marketing initiatives.
•Assist Project Managers and more experienced Engineers in ensuring that project/tasks schedules and budgets are met.
•Prepare documentation required by regulatory agencies to obtain permits.
•Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training.
•Travel occasionally, as required.
•You’ll need a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. If you have an advanced degree, that’s even better.
•You’ll need a minimum of 2-4 years experience in general civil and roadway design. Structural design experience is a plus.
•You should have excellent English language skills, both written and verbal.
•You will need the ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations.
•You’ll need to be outgoing, organized, and assertive. You’ll also need to be able to network and build relationships with a wide variety of people.
•Naturally, you’ll need computer skills using the Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to use AutoCAD (preferably with Civil 3D experience) and Microstation. Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software is beneficial but not required.
•You’ll need to be a motivated self-starter who displays a passion for solving problems, interacting in a team environment, and meeting established deadlines.
•You’ll need to be registered as a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona, be eligible to become registered by comity from another state, or be able to pass the Arizona PE exam within 1 year of employment.
