Civil Technician Jobs
A civil technician helps a civil engineer plan and design roads, bridges, tunnels, airfields, harbors, water and drainage systems. The functions of a civil technician consist of technical drafting of plans, maps and layouts and draft either by hand or with the use of a computer, performing engineering computations, creating and converting scaled drawings as requested as well as preparing and converting \"as built\" drawings of completed projects. He/she carries out research and planning of the project in order to determine the cost as well as the amount and type of material needed for the project. It is the responsibility of a civil technician to inspect the construction site and ensure that the construction materials used and the installation is carried out as per the contract specifications. A civil technician should be apt at reading detailed maps, plans and specifications and should possess thorough technical knowledge of drafting techniques, surveying and related engineering practices along with being quick and accurate at mathematical calculations.
An associate degree in Engineering Technology is required for this position. This job demands good eyesight, manual dexterity as well as sound physical health.
