A professional at the position of a senior civil engineer should have expert level knowledge of industry engineering principles and practices and complex principles and practices of civil engineering. A senior civil engineer is responsible for overseeing a complex engineering project and multiple small projects simultaneously. He/she has to supervise his team, provide necessary technical guidance, review their performance and ensure an effective and timely implementation and submission of the projects keeping in consideration the schedules, quality and budget, risks and the compliance of the projects to the terms of the contract. A senior civil engineer participates in negotiation with the contractors/vendors and establishes the formal agreement and responds to inquiries of the general public, consultants, contractors, and engineering professionals regarding engineering projects or area of assignment. Also, a senior civil engineer should attend and participate in professional group meetings; remain updated on the new trends and innovations in engineering and consequently incorporate them in his projects.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil, Geotechnical or Utility Engineering is required for this position with significant amount of experience in project management.
